A Box Set Debate…

In Stores Today
Instead of posting on Phish Thoughts today, I co-wrote an article with “Guy Forget” of Online Phish Tour for publication on their site. With the official release of the Hampton/Winston-Salem box set today, we had a written debate on which show is the “best” in the box—nothing like making art compete! I made a case for 11.23 at Winston-Salem, while he took the position of Hampton’s second night, 11.22. Check out the article, it should be a fun read!

Jam of the Day:
“Tweezer -> Izabella” 12.6.97 II
Today is the 14 year anniversary of my favorite “Tweezer” ever played.

Here’s a link to a piece I wrote about this jam a while back. I’ll post the beginning below.

Everyone has a go-to jam. It fits any mood you could ever be in, and you’ve listened to it several hundred times in your life. It is the first piece of music you want to hear when you are glowing after a show, ready to conquer the world. It is the first piece of music you want to listen to after a hard day at work. It is the only piece of music you could never possibly get sick of, even if played on a loop in your head forever. It is that analog tape you played to death, that CD you never lost, and now it is forever stored on your computer, iPod, and several other devices. It is part of you; you feel like what you hear, it just all fits. For me, there is only one answer to this scenario—the “Tweezer” from Auburn Hills ’97. Read on!

Hoping it arrives by then @telas.
i have it if not.
Picked up a 17 lb bird today!
hell yeah! i’ll bring the sweet tarts. 😯 j/k
i agree with everything you said about fall ’72 @tzaras
9.10.72 hollywood bowl is my favorite of the many (and surprisingly diverse) bird songs of the era. I fixed the dropout that’s in the circulating version. 11.19 is another of the 6 to 8 really really great ones from around then
in terms of jamming styles Fall ’72 is when they figured out both pure Miles style electric fusion (those Playins) and thematic/melodic jamming, the 2 pillars of their mature improv era
That could be interesting. Spinning would ensue I’d imagine.
I imagine myself explaining to others who the guy in the living room spinning is.
“Muff?”
“Yea, like ya know, your muff”
Alright Dale’s Pale Ale is putting me to bed.
Adios
@T-Ghost

It’s Up To You, 5B4 Funk, and Berm (featuring a super fun Bernie-led funk medley) get you a pretty good cross-section of what this lineup has to offer. I thought it was great and am stoked on* the show on the 28th.
*did I do that right? Gettin’ old over here.
Garret, did you get the e-mail on the Hotel situation
Yessir, Tom. Actually was about to reply to the thread just now, just finished my last homework assignments of the year! Finals next week…
@ Garret
I have three more papers due in the next two days and then finals next week.. Good luck on your finals, and I am sure the hotel will not be a problem
Tom and Dayman, you have mail
And thank’s Tom, good luck to yourself
Holy 5-8-93 Squirming Coil!!! Pandora has played that twice I’m the last week & the little Jessica jam from that night. But that Coil is hot! The possibilities that used to come from a mid set S Coil. Give it a play if you have not heard it in a while. Have a great night all.
Was out on the Iron Maiden, Sabbath talk earlier. Saw Maiden in ’84 I believe, powerslave tour. That concert had a major impact on me. As for Sabbath, agree with El Dude about those first 4 plus Sabbotage. Man that band can swing. Really looking forward to the Sabbath tour next year.
