Retro Post: Exploring on the Eighth

Exploring on the Eighth

Today, our December focus shift onto two sprawling excursions that took place on the eighth day of the month in 1995 and 1999. Both selections — Cleveland’s “Tweezer > Kung > Tweezer” and Cumberland County Civic Center’s “Piper” — feature musical explorations that veer far off the beaten path, providing snapshots of the band’s experimental side as seen through the lenses of 1995 and 1999…Read On!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: “Jennifer Dances” 12.7.99 II

One of the three December ’99 performances of the much-maligned tune. I’ve always wondered, “What’s not to like?”

It is a happy room. My girl is 39 and I am 38 and we just had our first…

  2. EL Duderino Says:

    congrats Spasm!

  3. mike in austin Says:

    nice Spasm. I didn’t know.

It was a cheesy little amp with a sign on the front said that said Fender Champ, and a second hand guitar. It was a Stratocaster wiht a Whammy Bar.

  4. plord Says:

My dream fender is probably Kimock’s, the ’60 with lipstick pickups from an old Danelectro, two vol (one for bridge and middle, one for neckl), no tone, 3 way switch that selects neck, bridge, or all three. strung .64-.016 (!!).

But I much prefer hippe sandwich guitars to fenders.

  5. EL Duderino Says:

    hippe sandwich guitars????

Yeah that lipstick fender is cool

  6. Spasm Waiter Says:

I like the Fenders that have a single coil and a humbucker. I like the range that allows. FWIW

  7. Mr. Palmer Says:

Spaz- you making it into the city for a show?

  8. P.S.H.S. Says:

have we had a lennon quote party today? i’ll start:
    “all you need is love”

  9. EL Duderino Says:

not criticising here Spasm… but a Humbucker defeats the Fender aspect IMO. but it’s just one person’s opinion

  10. garretc Says:

“The Beatles are bigger than Jesus”

  11. EL Duderino Says:

“psychedelic vision is reality too me”

  12. Spasm Waiter Says:

Duder- I get that the fender is all about the single coil but for me, on stage, I want one guitar that can provide that classic fender single coil sound and also, then be able to crunch out the thick Keith Richard power chords. My guitar tech usually forgets to bring me my Les Paul when I need it…. but I get where your sentiment comes from.

Palmer- at minimum going to the 29th. I think that is one of your off nights?

  13. EL Duderino Says:

    ok i get it.

    guitar tech? Damn brah!

  14. mike in austin Says:

“I’m higher than Jesus” -John Lennon

  15. Spasm Waiter Says:

    joking on the guitar tech.

  16. P.S.H.S. Says:

    “happiness is a warm gun”

  17. Mr. Palmer Says:

haha.. damn spaz i thought you had stepped up your game..

    Off night the 29th, yup.

  18. garretc Says:

“Yes Yoko, I think the song you sang on The Rolling Stone’s Rock And Roll Circus was quite lovely. What? No, I don’t think you sounded like a screeching banshee one bit…”

  19. P.S.H.S. Says:

“that’s george the quiet one, he’s ringo the fun one, I’m john the intellectual one, and he’s paul the fucking cunt”

  20. Spasm Waiter Says:

@Palmer- Too bad. I am trying to work another night but tough to leave Sonja w the newborn for 48 hr while I melt face in NYC. Of course, I know to phrase it differently whilst delicately debating the topic with her.

  21. garretc Says:

“After all, I am the leader of the Beatles”

  22. Spasm Waiter Says:

    Colt McCoy is decent.

  23. mike in austin Says:

Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands? And the rest of you, if you’ll just rattle your jewelry.

  24. DukeOfLizards Says:

“Without revolutionary theory there can be no revolutionary movement”

  25. Spasm Waiter Says:

McCoy just through pick to Polomalu. Reverse jinx… giddy-up.
