Reminder—12/29: A Book Signing and Afterparty

The Book

With MSG just around the corner at this point, I’m sure people are firming up plans in for their post-show reveries. I just wanted to remind everyone that I’ll be hosting a two events on December 29th—a book signing and afterparty—to celebrate the release of Mr. Miner’s Phish Thoughts. The details of both are below. I hope to see you there!

The Irish Times – 254 W 31st St. (b/w 7th and 8th Ave)

Less than 1 block from MSG!

The Book Signing: 4 pm – 6 pm

Once you’ve settled into the city for a day, come on down to The Irish Times—one of the nicest bars in The Garden’s vicinity—to celebrate the release of Mr. Miner’s Phish Thoughts! Grab a pre-show drink in the shadow of The Garden, check out the new book and purchase one if you’d like. I will have a table set up for book signing and for anyone who just wants to say hello. (Obviously, no purchase is necessary to come and hang out!) In addition, a large video screen will feature a hand-picked “Four-Song Set” DVD highlight reel for enjoyment during the pre-game festivities. This will be a great place to meet-up with friends and get ready for another installment of Phish: December 29th. Since nobody wants to tote a hardcover book to MSG, a “book check” service will be provided to ensure the safety of all books during the Phish show. Then, once the encore is over, come on back to The Irish Times for more fun!

The Afterparty: Post-show – 3 am – $5 cover

After the show’s final notes, don’t worry about grabbing a cab, come back across the street to The Irish Times for a post-show party! Without skipping a beat, Coltrane and Friends (funk, nu-disco, re-edit) will keep the grooves going for hours—and everyone is invited free of charge! With two floors, booths to sit and plenty of room in the bar, there will be ample to space to dance or chill, whichever your post-show selves prefer. Come and celebrate all that we, as a community, have to rejoice over at the end of an amazing year! Books will also be for sale throughout the after-party.

Check out some of  Coltrane’s mixes here!

I hope to see many of you on the 29th! Stay tuned for a Facebook event page. If there are any questions, email at

Tweezer > Trainsong” 12.12.97 I

The final “Tweezer” of Fall ’97, a gooey first setter from the first night of Albany.

Drowned > Caspian” 12.12.99 II

This “Drowned” is one of the eternally underrated jams of December ’99.

Down With Disease > Lizards” 12.12.95 II

And this “Disease” is another underrated monster from the vintage month of December ’95.

camden ’00 twist – tasty treat.

  2. SillyWilly Says:

    watch out for Alf, Joe

he almost helped me book flights to Denver from a bar in Chicago after several Two Hearteds before UIC

(ok, to be fair, I wanted to do it. Alf just provided friendly encouragement)

A few jams from summer ’10 that still flip my whig each and every time I listen and belong in any ‘best of 3.0’ conversation (IMO):

    1) Greek Light 2) Blossom #Line 3) Alpine DWD->WTU

If you haven’t listened to the Blossom #Line in a while, it is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

  4. stapes Says:

Jones Beach ’10 is not too shabby either. I agree with the others as well @ wolfmans

  5. stapes Says:

    Jones beach #line that is

  6. SillyWilly Says:

I admit to not listening back to that Blossom Numberline, but I really loved it live.

I remember seeing AW at setbreak which put me in the right mindset for the #line

My little sister was with me and she looked at me after it was over, with a huge grin:

    “I liked that.”

allie was a champ that night if I remember. Driving our big black suburban full of kids back to BtBFest.

man, these are just coming back to me.

  7. SillyWilly Says:

I also saw the Alpine DWD>WTU with my sister

    she’s good luck, apparently

  8. DukeOfLizards Says:

Just go straight back to Penn Station. I spent the night there a few times in my younger and more vulnerable years while waiting for the 6AM train back to NJ, and as long as you don’t try to sleep in the actual concourse (who would do THAT!?), you’re good.

Plus, since I assume you’re taking Amtrak, your ticket gets you access to the “preferred customer” lounge in the middle of the station.

  9. vegas wolfmans Says:

Stapes- Agreed. A dandy. Time to revisit that gem when I get home.

Who’s got my hetty White Denim link? Am I missing the freaking boat here or what? I’m making the switch to skinny jeans and there is nothing anyone can do to stop me. All kidding aside, y’all hipster-ass mofos were right about that War on Drugs album. I crave more feedback and angst. Hook a brother up. 8)

  10. DukeOfLizards Says:

Jones Beach #Line was my first true “WTF IS THIS” moment at a show.

    There have been many since.

  11. SillyWilly Says:

i need a fuckin spyder right. now.

  12. DukeOfLizards Says:

    Spy-dah. Spydah.

I will pour one out on the corner of 34th and 8th in your honor.

  13. tzara's Says:

Spydah! What’s up Silly? Making it thru those finals ok?

  14. tzara's Says:

And @duke. Did you pick up the live Miles set yet? One of my top albums of the year.

  15. DukeOfLizards Says:

    Actually, I guess it’s more like “spoi-dah.”

    The one that got away…

  16. joe Says:

I have the plan all worked out in theory duke – miner’s party till closing or I get kicked out, whichever comes first then hopefully I’ve made a friend or 2 from here who wants to get a bite to eat post party and then on to train. The hard part is going to be not wanting to leave nyc.

Here is where the outside ‘normal’ world wouldn’t understand the pull of the music and the kindness of this community here. Tough explaining hopping solo on a bus for 4 hours, catching up with people you only know via the internet, releasing as much positive energy by doing the running-man to pyschedelic rock music, re-meeting up with internet people till 3-4am and catching a 4 hour train ride home. I probably won’t be trying to explain it to the future inlaws at christmas dinner (hopefully)

  17. Mr.Miner Says:

releasing as much positive energy by doing the running-man to pyschedelic rock music

    ^ classic!

  18. angryjoggerz Says:

    Vegas Woofman,

Check out Wooden Shjips, they are feedbacky an angst and kill it.

  19. Selector J Says:

    Sorry I’m late.

  20. lumpyhead Says:

    go get your shine box.
