TTFF: The Second Ten of 2012

8.19.12, Bill Graham (Ken Scelfo)

Once again, don’t make too much of the rankings here, as I could have cut and pasted all night. I do, however, like the order in which these tracks settled. Look for jams 21-30 next week—there’s that much (plus more) any left to cover! Also, stay tuned next week when I unveil my picks for the sets and shows of the year.

20. “Roses Are Free” 6/8 I, Worcester, MA

Some of the freshest sounding music to come out of Leg One. Fishman’s work is immaculate.

19. “Ghost > Boogie On” 6/7 II, Worcester, MA

This segment needs no introduction—some of the more fluid jamming of Leg One. Trey owns the “Boogie.”

18. “Light > Weekapaug” 6/23 II, Burgettstown, PA

“Light’s” calypso section is hard to beat, and this is best “Weekapaug” of the era.

17. “Waves” 6/28 II, Noblesville, IN

The only “Waves” jam of the year, and it was a winner.

16. “Birds of a Feather” 6/15 II, Atlantic City, NJ

A stellar jam at the onset of one of summer’s most complete sets.

15. “Limb by Limb” 8/28 II, St.Louis, MO

I think its safe to claim this jam as the most impressive “Limb” of all time, as the band smoothly moves from the song’s theme into a wide open adventure.

14. “Fee” 7/1 I, East Troy, WI

A stunning foray into ambient sound-sculpting while the sun still shone at Alpine.

13. “Rock and Roll” 6/24 II, Pelham, AL

This personal favorite is one of the fiercely underrated pieces of 2012. The heavenly final segment was worth the price of admission alone.

***

12. “Sand” 9/2 II, Commerce City, CO

Though the band akwardly exits the groove for the outer reaches of the galaxy, once they get there this jam takes off.

[audio:http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/2.02-Sand.mp3,http://phishthoughts.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/2.03-Ghost.mp3]

11. “Carini” 6/7 II,  Worcester, MA

Perhaps the most underrated jam of summer; stunning interplay throughout.

MHMMM – i wouldn’t go see a show at Term 5 based on the sound alone. it’s simply too tall a venue and the sound cant get crispy. so boomy and muddy. there are some sight lines but you need to get in super early to catch a rail upstairs on the non-VIP side. i would avoid any multi state missions to see those guys at Term 5. you’d be better off hustling for a ticket for one of the Georgia shows.

last time i saw the Crowes was opening for the GD in Tampa in 94/95. Saw em a couple times in that Amorica phase. I wouldn’t mind catching em again but even their tour stop in Philly is at the shite-est venue in town (electric factory).

siriusxmU for the “college radio” tracks. forget the sirius #, somewhere in the 20’s.

not on RL’s list: Pearl Jam station and coffee house.

wish they had better jazz and reggae stations. and generally wish the stations had a wider playlist with less repeats.

Tried my first Lagunitas IPAs tonight and watched monkey porn. Tasty brew and an excellent nature show, which featured not only lotsa monkey sex but baboons eating flamingos and eagles eating chimps. Nutz! No phish tho

according to colbert – obama wants to allow citizenship or green cards (or whatever) to partners in established gay/lesbian relationships.
#still headed in the right direction

seriously who gives a fuck who loves who? i cannot in any way separate this from the bigots of the race wars which have plagued this country since the 1600s….

“The first 19 or so blacks arrived ashore near Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619, brought by Dutch traders who had seized them from a captured Spanish slave ship. The Spanish usually baptized slaves in Africa before embarking them and English law considered baptized Christians exempt from slavery, so these Blacks joined about 1,000 English indentured servants already in the colony. Some achieved freedom, owned land, and one later owned the American Colonies’ first true slave.”

……or sexism or any other outdated form of discrimination. look at history you close minded fucks, discrimination doesn’t win in the end. humans are humans, some are good and some are bad, and thats based solely on your character and your soul, and not on sex, race, or preference.
