Weekend Nuggets: Great Woods ’94

DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

phish-great-woods-94-metAs we continue our virtual download tour of the Summer ’09 venues, right after Jones Beach comes Great Woods.  A site of so many Phishy evenings throughout the years, few were more exciting then this two night stand in ’94.  The first night featured the last performance of the Gamehendge saga.  Entering the alternate reality via a dentist’s chair, we were off on the last full narration of Trey’s senior thesis right as the show began.  With Phish unlikely to ever bust out the story again, this is a must have show for any collection.

I: Llama > N2O* > Lizards > Tela > Wilson > AC/DC Bag > Colonel Forbin’s Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird > The Sloth > McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters > The Divided Sky

II: Rift, Sample in a Jar, Reba > Y-Rushalayim Schel Zahav, It’s Ice, Stash, You Enjoy Myself > Frankenstein > You Enjoy Myself, Julius, Golgi Apparatus

E: Nellie Cane, Cavern

First set contained a complete “Gamehendge” narration. *The idea was being in a dentist’s chair, with the gas slowly putting you to sleep, and on your way to Gamehendge.

The band followed up the legendary first night with a second night filled with Phish anthems.  Both sets were absolutely scorching, but set two was something special.  Check it out.  This is some great Phish.

I: Runaway Jim, Foam, Gumbo > Maze, Guelah Papyrus, Scent of a Mule, Down With Disease, The Horse > Silent in the Morning, Run Like an Antelope

II: 2001 > Split Open and Melt, Fluffhead, Poor Heart > Tweezer > Lifeboy > Sparkle, Big Ball Jam > Harry Hood, Suzy Greenberg

E: Sleeping Monkey, Tweezer Reprise

TICKET UPDATE: I guess Tickemaster hasn’t been cut out of things, because when you go to their scalping website, TicketsNow, the entire sumer tour is up with hundreds of tickets for sale.  Who the heck knows at this point?  Hey, it’s only $375 for an orchestra seat for The Fox and $431 for two to Asheville!

RUMOR MILL ’09: (Reminder: Rumors are things I hear that I do not know to be true.  When I hear something I feel would be interesting to people, I post it.  Nothing is confirmed until you read it on Phish.com)

For what it’s worth, this was posted by SOMEBODY on Phantasy Tour today.  This is NOT me speaking:

“The same source that gave me the scoop about summer tour told me that there will be no dates in august, and no red rocks. he said that fall tour will start in early to mid-September on the west coast, possibly at the gorge and go until early October. thereafter, there will be a short break followed by east coast dates ending with Halloween at MSG. take it for what it’s worth, but the dude was spot on about the routing for summer tour. he said that big cypress is being discussed, but that the band is exploring some “new” options (i.e., other than MSG, Miami or BC).”

  1. Mr.Miner Says:

^ that is what I am talking about. (?) The tour was passed on to me by a friend unrelated to Phantasy Tour. I just thought it was interesting.

  2. Chicago_Head Says:

keep the rumor mills afloat and coming strong! we all know none of it’s true till it hits PHISH.COM. day dream believer….how ’bout some of those Europe 96 shows?! 🙂

  3. Camman Says:

for some reason… i believe that paragraph miner…. its seems more reasonable to me… maybe they would spend the rest of the summer writing and recording… we;ll just have to wait and see…

hott damn i love the Story of the Ghost…

  4. Camman Says:

and who else thinks Phish will finally throw down Thriller for Halloween? or better yet, they should play American Idiot!!!!!!

haha just kidding guys…. just kidding…..

  5. Chicago_Head Says:

off topic, sorta….does anyone know what TicketMaster was charging for STING tickets, or POLICE tickets, or NEIL YOUNG tickets, or RADIOHEAD tickets, or U2 tickets, or COLDPLAY tickets, or EAGLES tickets, or etc, etc, etc..

I think some were upwards of $300 for the best seats, and went as low as $85 or so. Somewhere in that ballpark anyways. And that’s NOT using scalper sites, just straight-up TicketBastard, on the rocks.

Amazing Grace. Just Phish Food for Thought.

  6. nonoyolker Says:

Calling “Destiny Unbound” first night, first set Jones Beach

  7. jeff Says:

    JP…chill.

Fact – while there is a lot of fluff on PT, they are usually the first to break ANY Phish news.

  8. Hazel Says:

Mr. Minor, i cant figure out why JP doesnt read what you write….dude, JP, he didnt write the paragraph (5 times now)…but did you know that the book was written by the great and knowledgable Icculus.

Minor, u make alot of people happy. Keep on Keepin on

  9. Asher Says:

I’ve said this before on this site. My favourite tour rumor is that Trey wants Phish to play the last concert/event at the Spectrum in Philly. Wikipedia lists the last event as being a “concert” on Sept. 30th ’09. A Fall tour that starts out West at the Gorge in early to mid Sept. would probably put the boys right around Philly by the end of the month.

I like what I’m hearing!! Keep the rumors coming. Those of us stuck out West and unable to do any of the Summer run need something to hang our hopes on.

  10. Pookie Says:

Ticketmaster owns TicketsNow but it doesnt have to be tickets printed by TM to be on TicketsNow.

  11. Sunset LaBrea Says:

NYE 09 at the empire polo fields, indio ca

  12. hawkinbj Says:

I know you hear it all time, but seriously thank you for having this site. It is an absolute joy to read everyday and certainly makes the wait for the pending tour more bearable 🙂 It’s a part of mine and many of my friend’s daily routine now

  13. Mr.Miner Says:

^ thanks man! Its always nice to hear, to be honest.

  14. Henry Holland Says:

Sunset LaBrea, that would be incredible. I’ve been to 3 of the Coachella Festivals and it’s a fantastic venue, as far as places of those size go. At that time of year, the heat wouldn’t be an issue during the day, it’s plenty big enough to hold 80,000 people and it’s OK in terms of in and out access. Not much in the way of hotels in Indio though….

  15. Gary Team Canada Says:

Alpine Valley is not a laid back scene….saw so many people get busted there in 2003 and 2004.
The cops have these huge towers and they watch from above and have tons of undercovers walking round in 1980’s looking tie dyed shirts.
I dont mind the venue ( its enormous) but Deer Creek is way less heat than Alpine and i have never run into or seen any authority figures in that lot and i have been there for 10+ Phish shows….

  16. Al Says:

Mr. Miner, – just to let you know – this site isn’t just read by American phans, but all over the world. I live in Germany. And this is surely the best site on the net for us, as far as I see it.
Question: Will the audience tapes of the new tours be available on this site? Or does it collide with the policy? I am going to download the SBD from LIVEHISH anyway – just as all others will do, I guess.

  17. Jer Says:

Al, I don’t think Miner will be able to post aud -MP3- copies of the shows circulated by live phish (I might be wrong about this), but you will most certainly be able to download aud FLAC (maybe SHN) copies mere hours after the shows finish from bt.etree.org. Hope that helps.

  18. Mr.Miner Says:

I can post auds. Just like Trey tour, but I need to find a taper to work with or buy a hard drive recorder and convert and upload myself. Who’s got my help??

  19. Camman Says:

hey miner, while the Hampton shows are going on, for those of us not at the shows.. what would be the best way to get the setlist while its happening in real time…?

  20. burndog Says:

Alpine is a fun place. Not the place to be blazing out in the open. You can spot the undercover cops all the time. You are able to tailgate and party down before the show. They really crack down on Shakedown Street. They will bust people trying to sell any items. There are three parking lots. The towers that were talked about are right in the middle close to the venue itself. The lot that is east of the venue has a hill to walk, not fun after the show. Do yourself a favor and do not get there right away if you are worried about cops. Try to get into the middle lot.

  21. Pence Says:

^^This is the way it used to work. The songs are posted within two or three minutes of the actual start of the song on Phish.com…At least that what I remember

  22. Mitch Says:

I had cops tell us to put away our grill at Alpine. Shady. So far as Deer Creek, I’ve been going there for about 10 years now and its awesome in the lot. Sold grilled cheese and everything. Note to the kids under 21… I got busted there for underage drinking. They wont bust shakedown cause it will fill their jail but they will sure hand out a lot of tickets to turn a profit. Then you’re looking at about 300-400 in fines and about 20 hours of comm service and last but not least… alcohol classes.

  23. Julie Says:

Apline is a fricken great venue. Looking forward to meeting some of you Phishies there!

  24. DaveR Says:

    NYE 09 @ MSG

  25. camman Says:

where did you get that from dave?
