Weekend Nuggets: SoCal ’96

phish-pauley-pavillion-96DOWNLOADS OF THE WEEKEND:

Phish concluded Fall ’96 with a famed run down the west coast.  Ending in Las Vegas on December 6th, these two shows came directly before- with a stop in Phoenix in between them.  Both shows illustrate the band’s developing sound, as they finished the tour with far more musical direction than when it began.  Converging in more groove-oriented playing, the transition to funk was underway.  The LA “Tweezer” and San Diego “Mike’s” stand head and shoulders above the rest of their respective shows.  Enjoy the weekend.

This “Gin” that highlighted night three of UIC’s ’98 stand, saw Trey carry a melodic idea throughout the entire jam, creating an melodic anthem.

what do you do when the guest in your house turns of your music to watch big brother (reality tv show):
    a) do you kick his ass
    b) do you turn off the tv and turn the music back on while giving him a silent stare
    c) do you kick his ass turn off the tv and turn the music back on and proceed to give him a silent stare for the rest of his stay….

    @Miner

I was at this UIC show. I actually sat behind the stage.

This Gin is EPIC! Stands as my number one Gin of all time. Second Set opener and served as a quick reminder to the crowd to get ready, set two has begun. 28 minutes (or so) of glory. A great Moma and Slave from this set as well.

    d) Ridicule him for the remainder of the stay.

He’s a guest so you shouldn’t do any ass kicking. However since ass kicking seemed to be your imediate directon, then never ending ridicule should be a swell option for you. Then his choices are listen to you ridicule him or go back to the sweet sounds coming from the speakers. This way if ass kicking becomes neccesary, he will end up being the one to instigate it. Leaving you the opening to kick ass after being attacked in your own home. Plan ahead, be patient, go you!

  4. Stupendous Says:

not one to kick any ones ass, but D) sounds great!!!!!!!!!

  5. Bandnana Says:

    Then let the ridiculing begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Props to the person behind the “Runaway Jim” headline on CBS sportsline. Talking about Jim Thome coming out the gate hot to start the second half of the baseball season. Nice job there. Gotta love it.

The Bug, Tweezer Reprise quality is off the charts. Not a big Bug fan but this is fun. The video/audio is great. Great cap on the backside of my weekend. Thanks.

This reminded me to go back and check out the LivePhish SBD Tweezer from 2009.03.06. That Tweezer was maybe my favorite moment from the entire Hampton run this year.

How do I get those gorge extras from you Miner. I’m in PDX. Met your brother at the Carrie Brownstein meet-up. Gorge will be my wife’s first show. Anyone else camping at Wild Horse?
