TTFF: MSG Holiday Madness III

MSG—12.2.09 (Wendy Rogell)

The legacy is deep; so deep that for a third consecutive Friday, we revisit MSG highlights from Holiday Runs past! With anticipation growing for the end of the year bash and rumors already beginning to bubble for next year, take some time out of your Friday to aurally peruse some more of the years gone by. Back to writing next week…

2001” 12.29.98 II

A quintessential ’98 ambient jam bleeds into a furious funk throw-down which Trey absolutely tears apart..

***

Down with Disease > Piper” 12.30.98 II

This multi-tiered and exploratory “Disease” was the monster jam on the 30th in 1998.

David Bowie” 12.30.95 I

Mike’s > H2 > Weekapaug” 12.31.98 I

A stellar kick-off to New Year’s Eve ’98, following Prince’s “1999,” including the last legitimate “second jam” in “Mike'” (if I remember correctly.)

Sneakin’ Sally > Taste” 12.30.97 I

Phish sparked a special night at The Garden by ressurecting “Sneakin’ Sally” from the ’80s.

***

Runaway Jim” 12.31.95 II

This jam was part of a power-packed second set on New Year’s Eve ’95; one of the best sets in MSG history.

***

Harry Hood” 12.31.98 III

This unique version features a looped-out, spacey exploration of the song’s reggae intro before ever dropping into the song’s opening lyrics. This “Hood” was the final improvisational escapade in the best New Year’s Eve show since ’95.

You Enjoy Myself” 12.30.94 II

The creative centerpiece version from the band’s Garden debut.
