Split Open and Melt” 11.26.97 I

Some first set fire from Hartford ’97.

Free -> Llama” 11.22.95 II

After an aborted version of “Rift” opened the set, the band launched into the most exploratory “Free” ever played.

Tweezer -> Sweet Emotion Jam -> Dwd Reprise” 11.27.96 II

Segments of this “TweezEmotion” jam from Seattle illustrate the band inching closer to the funk of ’97, while other parts are anchored by Trey’s arena rock growl. A powerful sequence of Phish that gets unnecessarily sped up at the end.

David Bowie” 11.25.98 I

An intricate, yet heat-seeking, beast from the first set of Albany ’98. The band fires on all cylinders in this seething jam.

You Enjoy Myself” 11.23.94 II

This standout version capped the sequence of “Tweezer > Lifeboy” featured yesterday.

Piper” 11.25.98 II

Before “Piper” was a go-to jam vehicle…

If I Could” 11.23.94 I

Probably my favorite Phish ballad, ’94 was a year filled with peak performances of the song.

***

Run Like an Antelope” 11.22.95 I

The third song of Landover ’95—a raging “Antelope.

most visits to china this year?

  2. Mr. Palmer Says:

    halcyon- like Ghost?

  3. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Speaking of Dark Psych noise, I’m checking out some Sao Paolo Underground– “The Principle of Intrusive Relationships” Might find some fans around here, jazzy avant-garde darkness with some groove.

  4. Tzara's Ghost Says:

Yeah, Miner, I was thinking like a wine trivia contest. Or Washington state geography.

  5. halcyon Says:

A bit darker than Ghost. The song “The Nameless One” features this repetitive bass line with droning guitar with some screaming in it. I will try and upload it late tonight or tomorrow.

This song is 25″ long and just intrigues me everytime I listen to it.

  6. halcyon Says:

Jim Boeheims prepared statement: “The allegations that have come forth today are disturbing and deeply troubling. I am personally very shocked because I have never witnessed any of the activities that have been alleged,” said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim in a statement. “I believe the university took the appropriate step tonight. What is most important is that this matter be fully investigated and that anyone with information be supported to come forward so that the truth can be found. I deeply regret any statements I made that might have inhibited that from occurring or been insensitive to victims of abuse.”

  7. BingosBrother Says:

Phight Club. Last hippie standing wins the prize. Or an anonymous vote to you naming the best 2 Black Board posters. Cue Larry David.

  8. Admiral Ackbar Says:

    @Miner

    My vote is that you
    Do a BB haiku-off
    Best one wins the discs

  9. garretc Says:

Haha, I just finished watching The Manchurian Candidate for my history of the ’50s class, and I’m struck by one main thought:

It’s a damn good thing I wasn’t in Frank Sinatra’s shoes at the end there. Instead of seeing the lit up lighting booth and sprinting straight there I would definitely have spent 10-15 minutes walking in circles around MSG, trying different levels, popping back in and out of the inside to try and figure out where the hell I was before just saying fuck it and going back to where I was…

    Also: MSG, stoner fucks!

  11. Mr. Palmer Says:

wow. Scofield, Haynes , and Greene. That will be a treat.

  12. halcyon Says:

Talked with Tela’s about that a couple of days ago, and no surprise to me…I am scheduled to work nights that week 🙁

About 90% of concerts I am interested in, things to do etc etc fall on weekends when I work nights, or weekends I work days.

It is ridiculous the way this happens to me. Happened for Furthur several times, happening for Radiohead this year, Roger Waters last year, the list goes on and on and on

  13. Mr. Palmer Says:

you can’t request to switch weeks with someone?

  14. halcyon Says:

I am going to try and swing something…..even if for one night. Maybe switch a day shift for a night shift.

  15. DukeOfLizards Says:

Ticket for Kimock & Friends on 12/28 came in the mail this weekend.

Now to spend the next 30 days (!) mentally preparing for that night.

  16. angryjoggerz Says:

most visits to china this year?

    Works for me.

  17. garretc Says:

I think it’s pretty clear that whatever the contest ends up being, non-puffers should certainly be excluded…

  18. halcyon Says:

miner – you should post a phish trivia at a predetermined time and whoever emails you all the right answers first wins
or a trivia contest at your book signing but that could turn into a “whos the least spun” contest
