Is that absurdism? ’cause I totally think that. Except for the rebellion against death part. That’s not my view anymore. But creation (aka evolution) is still what it’s all about I think. The Point Of It All.
crazy hair trumps all, eh? id better start growing mine again then.
grrr…must turn off bad tv for zzzzzzs. till next time!
i see what you mean about hope.
ive always had a hard time defining “hope.”
It all started with my Catholic youth. The priest says “we are waiting in joyful hope for the coming of the Lord.”
so when i was younger and truly believed, I figured “hope” was “expecting something to happen” that i knew was going to.
then, someone explained, “isn’t even more powerful to hope when there seems to be no possibility of it happening? isn’t catholic hope crazy and beautiful”
i don’t believe anymore, but i do see the power behind that definition of hope. expecting something that is insanely unlikely.
I thought I was a discordian, but maybe I’m an absurdist? no, they’re the same thing.
Anyone heard from Rich? Wonder how the old Electrolux is doing in his possession.
my definition of absurdism is this:
life has no meaning and, yet, we can choose to give it meaning.
this choice, then, becomes the ethic.
most people don’t agree that life has no meaning.
then, theres people who say life has no meaning and then live life accordingly (these are people who live by no ethic and this can be dangerous)
the absurdist understanding life has no meaning strives, in spite of it all, to give it a meaning.
well that’s belief and hope together. a combination of two primaries; like orange or green 😮 kind of a technical distinction I guess
“more powerful” is a subjective value judgment. richer, perhaps, experientially? depends on your taste.
The counter view would be that expectation in that situation is simply delusional. To a buddhist it would certainly seem crazy…
Just Click My Name
for Prince’s Xpectation
also have The Upsetters – Eastwood Rides Again up in there…enjoy
I have to go now. Lost time. I would like to continue this discussion soon if possible…
my view is that meaning is an emergent property. it did not exist prior to the existence of consciousness, but it arose from consciousness (specifically inward-focused or self-reflective consciousness) and is now real, an independent higher order phenomenon.
Hail, Eris
thx @V!
i see what your saying, Mr. C.
so, what do I do with “Hope?”
What I mean is how do I go about thinking about it?
how does a buddhist think about hope? is what i mean
later, Mr. C!
